Research trials at U-M personalize cancer treatments

Curtis Huntington was diagnosed nearly three years ago with stage 4, advanced-stage prostate cancer.

Instead of getting treated with a conventional therapy used on most patients, Huntington participated in a research effort at the University of Michigan that uses genetic information to tailor treatment to his unique cancer.

He has since taken part in three clinical trials, and so far his prognosis is good.

"Being able to tailor treatment gives you a chance to treat your illness, not just an illness," said Huntington, 70, a U-M math professor. "I have a particular form of cancer, unique to me. If we can treat my form of cancer, that's great."

Huntington is involved in research that some say is the next frontier in medicine, known as personalized medicine. Since last year, U-M researchers have sequenced the DNA of tumors from more that 100 metastatic cancer patients who are no longer responding to usual therapies. The effort is to help doctors customize treatment based on evolving technologies and discoveries in DNA profiling.

Traditionally, patients get treated for diseases with what is available and works for the masses. Personalized medicine aims to customize treatment for every individual, based on their genetic information and other factors. It's a young but hot area in medical research, one that's expected to usher in a new era of treatments, possibly even add a new paradigm.

U-M has been involved in the research for years and is moving toward translating it into medicine, initially focusing on cancer.

"This is about as cutting edge in medicine as you can get," said Dr. Robert Penny, an adjunct associate professor in U-M's Department of Pathology. "For every disease out there, this is the future."

Research to expand

Penny is CEO of Paradigm, a nonprofit company that U-M began last summer in collaboration with Phoenix-based International Genomics Consortium.

The venture offers gene sequencing and molecular diagnostics to help tailor treatment for individuals. Sometimes the treatment involves an experimental drug being used in a clinical trial. Other times, patients can be put on an agent that is known to be effective at working on a specific DNA, or on a protein change, in cancer.

The company will soon be rolling out tests to be used in clinical trials.

The research initially is focused on cancer, because so much is known about DNA-level changes in cancer. But eventually, DNA sequencing will evolve to other diseases.

"This has really has been a revolution that we have been pushing for to happen so we become granular, more specific, on how we sort through patents, and who will respond to a particular therapy," Penny said. "We all want to get the right drug to the right patient at the right time."

The work complements other work under way at U-M involving sequencing of DNA.

Dr. Arul Chinnaiyan is director of the Michigan Center for Translational Pathology, which is working to develop new molecular tests and therapeutics for human diseases, with a focus on cancer.

Not all patients respond to conventional treatments, so when they reach advanced stages of cancer they are enrolled in a clinical sequencing program.

Since 2011, U-M has sequenced 150 adult patients and 15 children, Chinnaiyan said. The six-week process sequences the cancer tumor along with normal tissue and compares them.

"We're trying to figure out what mutations have occurred in the patient's tumor relative to the normal genome," Chinnaiyan said. "We analyze the data in the context of the mutation to see if there are any clinical trials that might be appropriate or approved drugs that might work."

A small percentage of patients fit the criteria for clinical trials or approved drugs, and an even smaller percentage will respond. But early research has offered some success stories that will be published in academic journals in the near future.

"Patients who have failed conventional therapies are looking for options," Chinnaiyan said.

'Reshaping cancer care'

Ultimately, the hope is to understand the genome of the cancer and what is driving it, and to sequence tumors sooner so patients can get more specific treatments sooner.

"In the future, this is the way that cancer and other diseases will be handled," Chinnaiyan said.

U-M joins several research institutions across the country that are working to translate personalized medicine into patient care, said Edward Abrahams, president of the Washington, D.C.-based Personalized Medicine Coalition.

The declining cost of sequencing, combined with the better understanding of genetics, especially genetic expressions of cancer, is providing better care for treatment, Abrahams said.

"It's the latest trend in significant research in oncology, and it is reshaping cancer care," Abrahams said. "We're trying to get away from one-size-fits-all, trial-and-error medicine ? and it has enormous implications for the future of medicine."

White House seeks 'balanced way' to budget fix

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The new White House chief of staff says President Barack Obama is concerned about the effect the automatic budget cuts scheduled for next month will have on America's middle class.

Denis McDonough tells ABC's "This Week" that the economy has been getting stronger over the past few months. He cites improvements in housing, the stock market and consumer confidence.

He says the cuts will affect education, mental health services and food safety.

McDonough says the White House will push for what he calls a reasonable amount of spending cuts coupled with additional tax revenue.

Republicans oppose any tax increases, but the White House will insist on cutting federal red ink "in a balanced way."

iOS 6.1.1 Doesn't Fix iPhone 4S Battery Issue, Adds Problems

Many issues plaguing the iPhone 4S still aren't fixed with iOS 6.1.1.

Sometimes you have to pat yourself on the back for not updating the OS. That might be a loaded statement given updates are supposed to fix bugs and make a platform more secure, but we've seen our share of update blunders that can kill performance, break features and even brick gadgets altogether.

Apple's latest iOS release, v6.1.1, supposedly addressed the iPhone 4S model and 3G connection issues brought on by the previous release. According to the company, the patch "fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S." Apple didn't specify the exact nature of the "issue".

However this week iPhone 4S owners have flooded various forum threads with complaints about persistent battery drain issues. Previously this latest patch was believed to include a fix for the drain, but iPhone 4S owners claim their devices are not only seeing high-battery loss, but overheating.

"iOS 6 was seamless for my phone and I experienced no issues," one forum member wrote. "When I converted to 6.1, the battery retained about 30 percent of its usual lifespan? and overheats. 6.1.1 hasn?t improved the situation."

The latest iOS update also didn't fix a security bug brought on by v6.1 that allows anyone to bypass the lockscreen. The hacker doesn't reach the Home screen, but does have access to contacts and photos stored on the device. Steps to achieve access include accessing the emergency call section, putting the device on stand-by mode and more.

The update also didn't fix a problem surrounding iPhone 4S users connecting and syncing with Microsoft Exchange servers. Microsoft told network administrators to merely block those devices from have access. Apple said it identified the problem and would release a fix.

On Friday German website iPhone-Ticker said that Apple is gearing up to release iOS v6.1.2 that will address all the problems listed in this report. The update is expected to land early next week, but the report claims that it may not appear until Thursday or later based on information provided by carriers.

CyanogenMod quickly brings Android 4.2.2 to many devices

CyanogenMod 4.2.2

With all the excitement surrounding Android 4.2.2 this week, as you look down at your non-Nexus phone or tablet you may be feeling more than a little left out. Fortunately, the CyanogenMod team has worked quickly to release nightly builds of CM 10.1 to their lineup.

It?s not always easy to sift through an Android update, as history has taught the CyanogenMod team. Previous Android updates that seemed small on the outside have often had so much underlying code that the merge took weeks. Android 4.2.2 is all about polish, slightly changing dozens of tiny things across the operating system. Adding colons and changing font size, as well as fixing some known performance and Bluetooth bugs.

There are more than a few tiny changes, but now that the changes are live in the Android Open Source Project, Android developers can get to work merging the changes into their own projects. CyanogenMod, as one of the largest third party Android OS developers, will be releasing updates to their lineup of supported smartphones over the weekend.

Android 4.2.2

On top of the Nexus devices that are already running Android 4.2.2, CM10.1 nightlies for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Tab P1000, and Asus Trnasformer Prime Infinity are available. Throughout the weekend, more smartphones and tablets are likely to become available. The CM team briefly commented on their progress, noting that as one device in a ?family? becomes available, the others will be quick to follow behind. So, if your carrier version of something like the Galaxy S3 isn?t available yet, you won?t be waiting for very long. All of the work being done here continues toward the monthly stable release of CM10.1, which will be announced later this month.

CyanogenMod 10.1 remains the best way to bring your gadget to the latest version of Android, since even phones that will be announced next week will not get the update to Android 4.2.2 from the manufacturer for at least a couple of months. In the case of a phone like the Galaxy S3, whose version of Android is so heavily augmented by Samsung, it?s more likely that the Galaxy S4 will be released before an update is available.

Rumor: Harrison Ford Will Return as Han Solo in ?Star Wars Episode VII?

Latino Review, the site known for dropping major scoops about superhero movies, has moved on to Star Wars, and their latest finding is a biggie.

They?re reporting that Harrison Ford will return as Han Solo in Star Wars Episode VII. Now, we knew that he was interested in returning and we?ve heard that LucasFilm is interested in doing something with Solo, but this is the first time we?ve heard that Ford will, in fact, return. How will he fit in? Is this news legitimate? Discuss below.

Until Disney and LucasFilm release a press release, I understand how people will take this piece of news with a grain of salt. But Latino Review would not report it unless they heard, from a very reliable source (or sources), that Ford, director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Michael Ardnt and LucasFilm?s Kathleen Kennedy had discussed this and agreed on it.

While there isn?t a finished script for Episode VII just yet, those four people all have an idea of what?s going to happen, what characters are going to appear and what they?re going to need to make it happen. Ford?s participation is something we assumed but now it sounds like the word is out. And the deal is ?done? and ??significant.?

It?s still early on the West Coast, so Disney hasn?t released an official response yet, but we?ve asked and will update when they?re in touch. Head to Latino Review to watch a video of @elmayimbe?explaining?this?scoop?and the process.

So now that we?ve addressed the information itself, let?s take it and run. If Han Solo is in Star Wars Episode VII,?how big a role do you want him to have? I have a strong feeling that it won?t be a large role, but an important one. His appearance would likely serve both as a passing of the torch to a new generation but also to link the original trilogy with this sequel trilogy.

This is big, exciting news don?t you think? Discuss below.

UPDATE: We have yet to hear from LucasFilm or Disney but Geoff Boucher of Entertainment Weekly, who broke the original Solo news, said the following:

New Finmeccanica head faces fallout from India crisis

MILAN | Thu Feb 14, 2013 4:33pm IST

MILAN (Reuters) - The new head of Italian defence group Finmeccanica(SIFI.MI) has inherited a corruption crisis over a $750 million helicopter deal with India that risks hurting the company's business in other foreign markets.

Italy's second largest corporate employer moved chief operating officer Alessandro Pansa into the top job after police arrested CEO and Chairman Giuseppe Orsi on Tuesday.

Orsi, who is being held in jail but has not been charged, faces allegations of paying bribes to win a 560-million-euro contract for the company's AgustaWestland unit to supply 12 helicopters for use by senior Indian politicians.

He denies any wrongdoing.

Finmeccanica shares fell 1.75 percent on Thursday and have lost 12 percent in the aftermath of Orsi's arrest.

Concerns over the potential long-term damage to sales from the taint of corruption claims outweighed relief at swift action to fill the management vacuum.

"The speed at which the company tried to fix the corporate governance issues is a positive," Italian bank Mediobanca said.

"We still see reputational risk and we wonder if some other countries may try to cancel orders," it said.

India will make no more payments and will not take delivery of the remaining nine helicopters until a probe by its Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is complete, two officials at the Indian Defence Ministry told Reuters on Wednesday.

The bribery case is having political repercussions in both India and Italy.

In India, where national elections are due next year, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lambasted the Congress-led government for not acting sooner over the allegations.

In Italy, elections are only just over a week away and all sides are trying to make political capital from the latest in a series of corruption cases to shake the Italian business world.

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has fought a series of legal battles himself over his business empire and private life, said on Wednesday that overzealous prosecutors risked harming Italian business.

STATE ROLE

The Italian state remains the largest shareholder in Finmeccanica with a stake of about 30 percent.

Centre-left leader Pier Luigi Bersani, whose group was ahead in the last opinion polls published before the February 24-25 election, said on Thursday it was the wrong moment to consider further privatisations.

"In this moment it would be crazy... I am talking about Eni, Enel, about Finmeccanica," Bersani said when asked about potential privatisations in a television interview, referring to state-controlled oil giant Eni(ENI.MI) and utilities group Enel(ENEI.MI).

Ratings agency Moody's confirmed its rating of Finmeccanica debt after Pansa's appointment but cut the outlook to negative from stable.

"The negative outlook reflects heightened challenges in achieving a stronger operating and financial profile that is consistent with expectations for the Baa3 rating," it said.

Moody's cited a soft outlook for defence spending and the need for Finmeccanica to sell off more assets.

Pansa, who joined the company in 2001 as chief financial officer, will be supported by Guido Venturoni, 78, a former admiral who becomes vice chairman and who was the senior independent director on the Finmeccanica board.

Shareholder meetings will be held in April to finalise the new board which is when a new chairman could be appointed to work alongside Pansa.

The heavily indebted group is trying to sell units including its AnsaldoEnergia power engineering business to focus on its core aerospace and defence activities.

The 50-year-old Pansa, a graduate of Italy's prestigious Bocconi University where Italian prime minister Mario Monti also studied, was involved in disposal talks alongside Orsi.

Aerospace analyst Nick Cunningham of London-based Agency Partners said Pansa could benefit from the restructuring started by Orsi in his two years in charge.

"If Alessandro Pansa is really lucky he could end up being at the helm of Finmeccanica when all the benefits of all that hard work comes through in the numbers."

Jamie Dupree's Washington Insider: Congress wants answers on cruise ship debacle

Just hours after the Carnival Triumph was towed in from the Gulf of Mexico and finally docked in Mobile, Alabama, Congress began asking questions of the U.S. Coast Guard on the incident, trying to find out whether there is a larger safety issue that needs to be reviewed involving large passenger vessels.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), who chairs the Senate Commerce Committee, fired off a letter to the Coast Guard Commandant, asking for a review of the incident and others that may be similar in the last six years involving large passenger vessels.

February 14, 2013

Admiral Robert J. Papp Jr. Commandant
United States Coast Guard 2100 Second St. SW
Washington, DC 20593

Dear Admiral Papp,

I write to share with you my deep concern regarding the currently unfolding incident involving the large passenger vessel Carnival Triumph. It is my understanding that on Sunday, February 10, 2013, as the Triumph was transiting Mexican waters roughly 100 to 150 nautical miles north of Merida, the vessel experienced an engine room fire and subsequent loss of power which has left more than 4,000 passengers and crew members adrift in the Gulf of Mexico. I have been horrified to read and hear the many accounts of unbearable living conditions aboard the ship, including lack of food and water, nonfunctioning and overflowing toilets in the ship's cabins, exposure of passengers and crew to raw sewage, an intolerable ship-wide stench of human waste, and blazing heat that has caused many passengers to seek refuge in makeshift shelters on the top deck.

This unfortunate situation is just the latest example in a long string of serious and troubling incidents involving cruise ships. As you are aware, last March in the wake of the Costa Concordia grounding off the coast of Giglio, Italy, I conducted a Commerce Committee oversight hearing to examine deficiencies in the cruise line industry's compliance with federal safety, security, and environmental standards, and to better understand the Coast Guard's role in conducting safety inspections and responding to marine incidents that occur aboard cruise ships. At that hearing, a clear pattern emerged with respect to how the cruise line industry conducts itself. As I remarked then, they seem to have two lives: one is at port, where the Coast Guard can monitor their operations; the other is at sea where, it appears, once they are beyond three nautical miles from shore the world is theirs. The Carnival Triumph incident only serves to further validate this view.

The incident also serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigorous inspection and enforcement of cruise ship safety, security, and environmental requirements by the Coast Guard, in order to protect the lives of those onboard. I understand that the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board have already launched an investigation into the cause of the engine room fire that occurred onboard the Carnival Triumph. I look forward to the findings of this investigation and expect to be fully briefed as soon as the Coast Guard is able to do so.? In the interim, I ask that the Coast Guard provide this Committee with the following information:

  1. How much do you anticipate the Coast Guard will spend in resources (including but not limited to a dollar amount and labor hours), to respond to and investigate the Carnival Triumph marine casualty?
  2. How much has the Coast Guard spent in resources (including but not limited to a dollar amount and labor hours) to-date, to respond to and investigate the November 8, 2010, Carnival Splendor marine casualty, in which that ship suffered a similar engine room fire in Mexican waters that knocked out onboard air condition and water supply, and was subsequently towed under Coast Guard escort to port in San Diego, California?
  3. When can we expect to receive a copy of the Coast Guard?s final report on the Carnival Splendor marine casualty investigation?
  4. Please provide a detailed list of the number of large passenger vessel marine casualty investigations the Coast Guard has conducted or is conducting in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.? Please include vessel owners, operators, and names in this list.
  5. Can and will the Coast Guard seek to be reimbursed by Carnival Corporation for the cost of responding to either the Carnival Splendor marine casualty or the Carnival Triumph marine casualty?

?

Sincerely,

John D. Rockefeller IV

Chairman (Senate Commerce Committee)?

Simulation helps scientists better understand the origin of our solar system

Feb. 13, 2013 ? Simulations boost the significance of image and measurement data from space missions: based on the example of an asteroid, Bernese astrophysicist Martin Jutzi shows how collisions with other celestial bodies can be reconstructed and that even the internal structure of so-called protoplanets can be described. These models help to understand the development of our solar system.

Four and a half billion years ago, dust particles in a giant, dusty gas cloud combined to form increasingly large clumps. These collided, aggregated and thus grew into planets. Between the planetary orbits of Mars and Jupiter, however, hundreds of thousands of smaller fragments remained. They formed the so-called asteroid belt and hardly changed their composition since then. Asteroids thus contain an inestimable amount of information on the origin of our solar system. In research, particular attention is paid to an asteroid called Vesta: with a diameter of around 500 kilometres, it is one of the three largest asteroids and considered to be a protoplanet. Moreover, it is the only known asteroid to have an earth-like structure -- with a core, mantle and crust.

Computer simulation reconstructs collisions between asteroids

Using a three-dimensional computer simulation, Martin Jutzi from the Center for Space and Habitability (CSH) at the University of Bern has now accurately reconstructed how Vesta collided with other asteroids twice over a billion years ago. The models show that the protoplanet owes its elliptical shape to these collisions and that they also scarred its surface structure. The simulations also enable detailed conclusions on the composition and properties of Vesta's interior to be drawn for the first time, which helps us to better understand the evolution of the solar system.

After all, the formation of planets largely depends upon collisions between celestial bodies. "Our method facilitates especially informative analyses of image and measurement data from space missions," says Martin Jutzi. The study, which was conducted in collaboration with researchers from the EPFL, France and the USA, features as the cover story in the February 14 issue of Nature.

Models uncover hidden secrets

Previously, observations with the Hubble Space Telescope provided initial evidence of a giant crater at Vesta's south pole. Then, in 2007, NASA's "Dawn" probe began its space voyage into the solar system's past. Starting in the summer of 2011, it closely orbited Vesta for one year. Images from within the visible range as well as other measurement data provided information on the asteroid's topography and the composition of the minerals that are visible on its surface. It became apparent that the crater observed by Hubble at Vesta's south pole is actually composed of two partially overlapping basins.

Based on this information, the computer simulations by Jutzi's team now demonstrate exactly how two consecutive impacts of celestial bodies led to the formation of the observed overlapping basins, which almost span the entire southern hemisphere of Vesta. The models show the size (66 and 64 kilometres in diameter), velocity (5.4 kilometres per second) and the impact angle of the bodies that collided with Vesta. This reveals a lot about the properties of the objects that were near the protoplanet a billion years ago.

The final images of the simulations closely resemble the shape and topography of Vesta's southern hemisphere as observed by the Dawn mission. The models even accurately reproduce the spiral-shaped structures inside the youngest crater which are visible on images from the Dawn mission. "This shows how reliable our method is," rejoices Jutzi. The researchers assume that the models also provide information about previously hidden features of Vesta. For instance, the simulations reveal that the material exposed by the impacts comes from depths of up to 100 kilometres. "Based on the sort and distribution of this material we are able to precisely reconstruct the various inner layers of Vesta," explains Philippe Gillet, Direktor des Earth and Planetary Science Laboratory der EPFL.

"The fact that we can now look inside such protoplanets makes entirely new perspectives in the research on the history of our solar system possible," says Jutzi.

African pope would be "quite some miracle": Ghana archbishop

CAPE COAST, Ghana (Reuters) - A black African pope to succeed Pope Benedict would be "quite some miracle", a leading archbishop from Ghana said, adding that a developing world candidate might have to overcome negative perceptions within the Catholic hierarchy.

"If the Church chooses a Third World person or a black pope it will have to come to terms with itself," Matthias Kobena Nketsiah, archbishop of Cape Coast, told Reuters.

"I am not saying the Church is racist, but there are overtones and perceptions that maybe add up to that."

Speaking in an interview with Reuters TV recorded on Tuesday, Nketsiah said he supported Ghanaian Cardinal Peter Turkson, his predecessor in the Cape Coast archbishopric, for the job of leading the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

"I am all for it but I have to have my feet on the ground. It will be quite some miracle given the perception of an African of the Third World," he said at his residence in Cape Coast.

Benedict stunned Catholics across the globe on Monday by saying he would step down on February 28.

Some 117 cardinals will enter a closed-door conclave at the Vatican in mid-March to elect a successor.

Two-thirds of today's Catholics live in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Ghana's Cardinal Turkson and Cardinal Odilo Scherer of Brazil are among those mentioned as candidates.

Nketsiah said he believed Turkson, who is 64 and currently head of the Vatican justice and peace bureau, would tend towards being conservative on moral issues if he were elected.

"We in Ghana, and I think in the Third World, we are loyal children of the Church, if I may say so, so he will stick to the teaching of the Church," he said.

"If the Church says there is no way for same sex (relations), that is what he's going to pursue ... He would be somebody who would stick to it and teach how the Church teaches," Nketsiah added, saying he had trained to be a priest with Turkson.

Another African Cardinal, Laurent Mosengwo, archbishop of Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo, is seen as another potential candidate from Africa.

There are no open campaigns or declared candidates for the post and cardinals are forbidden by Church law from revealing who they voted for. Many cardinals choose their favorite after a series of discreet contacts in the days before the election.

'Masked' mold toxins in food should be included in safety regulations

Feb. 13, 2013 ? Government limits on mold toxins present naturally in grain crops should be expanded to include so-called "masked mycotoxins" that change from harmless to potentially harmful forms in the body, a new study concludes. It appears in ACS' journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.

Chiara Dall'Asta and colleagues explain that molds growing naturally on wheat, corn and other plants produce toxic substances termed mycotoxins. Some health experts regard mycotoxins as the most serious chronic dietary risk factor, greater than the potential health threats from pesticides and insecticides. Government regulations thus limit levels of mycotoxins that are permissible in food and animal feed. Plants protect themselves by binding or "conjugating" glucose, sulfur or other substances to the mycotoxin, producing conjugated mycotoxins that are not harmful.

Dall'Asta explains that these "masked mycotoxins" are not included in current safety regulations because of uncertainty about what happens when people and animals eat them. The new study focused on two of the most widespread mycotoxin contaminants of grain crops -- deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZEN). The authors say their results show, for the first time, that bacteria present in the large intestine in people deconjugate or "unmask" DON and ZEN, releasing the original toxic forms. "For this reason, masked mycotoxins should be considered when evaluating population exposure," the study concludes.

Use An Online Back Up System For All Your Personal Computer Files

You really do not have to be a portable computer expert to actually make use of the Carbonite back-up software program. So long as you can really read through and understand very simple instructions, downloading the software and setting up the data back up schedule is all you have to do to have the entire backup process started. In fact, once downloaded, you do not have a lot to do since Carbonite duplicates all desktop computer documents instantly. Many prevailing ways of backing up data which include CDs, DVDs, flash cds, and remote harddrives are not completely perfect. Such products, similar to your own desktop computer, are, without a doubt, liable to actual breakage and deterioration in cases of fires, water damage, robbery, or other threats. Thus, one can lose useful copied data in any event of dangerous conditions.

Carbonite remote location backup is, definitely, a reliable software which allows you to store all of the files effectively. Such files like images, legal docs, and songs are saved immediately on the Internet just in case you, accidentally. lose all of them in the laptop computer. Hence, you really could restore the files on another laptop computer or gadget any time. Carbonite remote location backup provides an easy to use solution which immediately backs up and updates files. They are eventually preserved in a remote database. It?s easy to actually navigate the particular program. It?ll really guide you, one step at a time. You do not have to always stress about the security of all the files as they?re all encoded even before they?re transmitted on the Internet. Get a Carbonite coupon code or Carbonite promo codes from sites that offer Carbonite to save cash.

Standard backup applications such as DVDs, tapes, or CD disks are really vulnerable to breakdown due to variables such as environment, incorrect labeling, and negligence. Administering information recovery entails these kinds of media to actually be installed in a home computer to obtain the needed documents. All these backup providers also require specific programs to actually work properly. By means of on-line back-up option, there is no requirement to physically handle movable devices whatsoever because record files are smoothly downloaded to all their remote facilities. The same time, data can also be transferred to a destination provided that there is Internet connection.

Mohawks and moon-gear: Men bring creative style to Grammys

Justin Timberlake arrives at the 55th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

By Alex Smith, TODAY

Several gents on the Grammy red carpet decided to part with convention Sunday night, putting new spins on old classics, bringing back a trend or two and making a few bold new style choices.?

Stars cover up: Beyonce wears a pantsuit on Grammy red carpet

Formerly the calling card of pugnacious punk rockers, the mohawk made a high-profile return, sprouting like stylish black wheatgrass from the scalps of both dancehall toaster Sean Paul and Jack Antonoff from indie trio fun.

Adding some flash to classic attire, rapper/producer Pharrell Williams rocked an eye-catching aqua-marine bow tie. Singer Trey Songz upped the ante in modernizing the bow tie with a bold piercing.

Pierced and fierce: Trey Songz shows off his modified bow tie.

John Mayer pushed the envelope in his own, unique way by donning an eye-popping royal blue velvet jacket. Hotly touted as the evening?s best-dressed gentleman, Justin Timberlake brought sexy back a second time in a sharp, sleek tux as if channeling his inner 007.

Resplendent in white: Chris Brown arrives at the 55th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Embattled R&B star Chris Brown showed up entirely in blinding white, while, conversely, Jack White donned an all-black ensemble (save a striking style blue handkerchief). Also rocking the all-black came Dave Grohl, Maroon 5?s Adam Levine and, less surprisingly, dubstep enfant terrible Skrillex, dressed like a goth mod in black Fred Perry. Youthful Cajun country star Hunter Hayes augmented his sophisticated black ensemble with a bit of rock & roll style via a fetching pair of black high tops.?

Skrillex?s techno-peer Dangermau5 also eschewed formal-wear (and his signature helmet) by showing up in a T-shirt, black leather jacket and baseball cap emblazoned with the legend, ?Your S*&T BUMS ME OUT.? Classier headgear, meanwhile, could be seen on the heads of folk-rockers The Lumineers and British indie ensemble Mumford & Sons, in the form of sleek, trilby fedoras.

Hats off to the Lumineers: Stelth Ulvang, Neyla Pekarek, Jeremiah Fraites, Wesley Schultz, and Ben Wahamaki hit the red carpet.

Nominees for Album of the Year, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Americana Album, Mumford & Sons arrive on the red carpet with hats on heads.

Adding a touch of his signature mystique to the proceedings, musical icon Prince sauntered onto the Grammy stage brandishing a cane. More of a flashy flourish than an implement of physical support, Prince?s gleaming cane leant the formerly purple one an extra air of regal badness ? as if any were necessary.

But while many of the fellas looked quite fashionable on the Grammy carpet this evening, by far the most eye-catching ensemble of the evening was sported by one DJ Al Walser. The man behind the single ?I Can?t Live Without You,? (nominated for Best Dance Recording), Walser came dressed in a spacesuit. Maybe he got the Grammys confused with the MTV Music Awards (who give out Moonmen for awards).

Cantor says children of illegal immigrants should get U.S. citizenship

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top U.S. Republican lawmaker said on Sunday he would support granting citizenship to children who are in the country illegally in a sign that conservatives who oppose immigration amnesty will be playing defense as Congress takes on immigration reform in the coming months.

Representative Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives, said Congress could make quick progress on immigration if lawmakers agreed to give citizenship to children - an idea he opposed when it came up for a vote in 2010 as the DREAM Act.

"The best place to begin, I think, is with the children. Let's go ahead and get that under our belt, put a win on the board," Cantor said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Cantor is leading an effort to improve his party's image as many Republicans worry they will be consigned to irrelevancy in coming years if they do not reach out to the fast-growing Latino electorate, which strongly supports immigration reform.

President Barack Obama has made immigration reform a top priority of his second term in office and a bipartisan group of senators is working to draft legislation that would tackle the issue in a comprehensive manner, rather than the piecemeal approach that Cantor suggested.

Republican Senator John McCain, who is involved in that effort, said his group aims to provide a path to citizenship for all of those who are in the United States illegally, not just children, as long as border security is tightened.

"There are 11 million people living in the shadows. I believe that they deserve to come out of the shadows," McCain said on "Fox News Sunday."

That could be a tough sell for many of Cantor's Republicans in the House, who say it would amount to amnesty for those who willingly broke the law.

"We want to make sure we're compassionate and sensitive to their plight - these kids know no other place as home. On the other hand, we are a country of laws," Cantor said.

Cantor declined to say whether he would support a pathway to citizenship for adults as well. He could be forced to take a stand one way or the other if McCain and his colleagues manage to pass their legislation out of the Senate.

Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, said Cantor's support for citizenship for children was a positive sign. But he said his colleagues in the Senate would be pushing for more.

"I've met these young people, and they will tell you, yes, I want a future, but what about my mom and dad?" Durbin said on "Meet the Press." "We're not stopping with the DREAM act, we're beginning with the DREAM act and pushing forward."
